A heritage trail to remember Singapore's emotional past during the World War II. Singapore was a major British military base and was also referred to as ""Gibraltar of the East"". Visit historic sites, listen to war-time strategy stories, learn how British forces surrendered to the Imperial Japanese Army on 15 February 1942 and discover how Singapore survived during the Japanese Occupation years. You will also get to view exhibits on the events and memories surrounding the British surrender, the Japanese Occupation and the legacies of the war. Continue on to Kranji War Memorial which honours the fallen allied soldiers who died defending Singapore and Malaysia against the invading Japanese forces during World War II. Every year, on the Sunday closest to Remembrance Day on 11 November, a memorial service is held to pay tribute to those who died in the line of duty.
